I started my karate training in the early 1980’s in a Shotokan Karate dojo in Inglewood, California with Sensei Dennis Loebs. I do remember thinking watching the black belts and thinking that I would not reach that level. Now I can say that it is simply a matter of continuing to train and embrace the karate spirit, each day will bring a new challenge! Eventually I was fortunate to earn the rank of 2nd Dan from Master Hirokazu Kanazawa, who is the head of Shotokan Karate International. Karate brought physical demands and peace of mind that I had never previously experienced, and is something that I see as not merely a hobby, but a way of life. One of the most fulfilling parts of my training was working with the children, many of whom were in need of firm guidance and positive role models, and could have easily found less desirable ways to expend their abundant energy. It brought me enormous satisfaction to watch these kids blossom and take pride in their accomplishments, and to know that I had been a part of making that happen. After we moved to Vista I dabbled in a few different martial arts, and was not able to re- capture the feeling that karate brought to me. When I met Sensei Sal and saw his dojo, I knew that I had found the next part of my journey. Although I have been training there a very brief time, I can see that Sal is an exceptional person who gives all to his training, his students and his community. I am so blessed to have been accepted by Sal and his hugely talented students, and I have so much to learn from all of them, regardless of rank! Hello, Sensei Cyd has is truly a wonderful person and gem of a lady and em proud to have her has a student and friend who has inspired many students. Thank you for trusting me Sensei.
